The match verdict is out!

Sunday, March 18, 2012

The match verdict is out! We will be heading east to
Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital,
Boston, MA
for our first year
followed by three years at
Mayo Clinic,
Rochester, MN

As two of the top three hospitals in the nation we could not have asked for anything better! Tim has worked very hard during his four years at Medical College of Wisconsin, publishing three articles in dermatology journals and meeting many wonderful professionals and friends along the way. While we are sad to leave Milwaukee, the city branch, and all the amazing friends we have gotten close to, we are excited to start this new chapter of our lives!

We are extremely stoked to go live in Boston, a very cool city and yes it has a CHINATOWN! It has been a long time since I could easily access dim sum! My mouth is watering as I think about it..... Also we will only be 6 hours away from my family. And it sounds pretty cool to say Tim's going to HARVARD! Quaint neighborhoods, historical sites and museums here we COME!

Rochester will be an amazing place to live and raise our family since it is extremely safe, has a great school system and low cost of living. US News and World Report ranked Rochester in the Top Ten Places to Grow Up in 2009.

Match Day

Pre-Matched faces. Anxiously awaiting for the ceremony to begin!

Thank goodness Tim was called during the first quarter of names. Luckily I was have it recorded.

Slowly opening the results of our rank list.

SURPRISE!

And here's the video of it all.

That night we were able to celebrate together at PF Changs.

This little girl is too cute! I can't say that enough. Every morning she brings a smile to my face as I enter her room and there she is bouncing happily up and down in her bed while waiting for someone to rescue out of her nightly confinements. She loves her bumbo seat. Everyday without fail she will climb in and out of her bumbo seat for about 10 minutes or so. That silly girl.

She has started walking on her own a lot more which is fun to watch. As for speaking I've been trying to talk to her in basic Cantonese to her. I say basic because my chinese isn't that great but guess it'll do for a baby's brain. She can say nai nai (milk), mum mum (food), dada (daddy), haahng gaai gai (take a walk), and occasionally mama.

When I say sek sek (kiss) she'll pucker up and make a sucking sound. I love it!

Food is one of my favorite past times.

Recently we just started letting Kara watch baby einstein and she loves it. Especially the puppet characters. The show seems so simple but it is pretty fascinating to watch. Even I enjoy it.

Kara is very active and loves climbing onto things. She enjoys watching the cats outside alongside big bro.

Whenever Kara finds her boots she'll will bring it to us and gesture for us to put it on. A girl's gotta have shoes on to look good!

Spending quality time with big bro

Music time at home

Well that's 13 month old me in a nutshell. :)

Baby Boy Racecar Bib and Appliqued onesie

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

I love being in a church ward filled with so many young moms. The reason being? More children and more babies popping out. So ofcourse a lot of baby showers to attend. Such a fun time for these mothers bringing such sweet spirits into the world. I love making stuff for the little ones because it's so cute! And of course a lot faster to make since they're so much smaller than adults.

My friend's baby boy is due  next month and I decided to go with a car theme. Found this really cute race car snuggle flannel on sale at Joanns last week and the rest I had on hand. I used the minky soft fabric for the backing of the bib and snaps instead of velcro because I don't like how it can scratch baby's soft skin. As for the onesie I used some scrap fabric and cut my car parts out. Then used fusible wunder under to fuse the fabric pieces onto the onesie with an iron. Then zigzag-ed the edges of the fabrics.

Tim got the email this morning......

Match or not to Match. That is the question

Sunday, March 11, 2012

The week of Match Day has finally arrived and it's hard not to contain our anticipation and excitement of finding out where we will be for the next four years for residency.

Tim's brother created this comic concerning how the match system works:

The COUNTDOWN IS ON!
And by the way, the sorting hat better take this one back or else a black belt is coming after it.

13 Months Walkity Walk

Sunday, February 26, 2012

Kara lately has been starting to walk on her own a little more. She continues to enjoy crawling around for exploration but occasionally she will take up courage and make those baby steps count!

Winter Wonderland

The other day while in bed I was reading my facebook news feed and someone status-ed (that's my new term), "have you looked out your window yet?" So I quickly got out of bed and took a peek. Whoa! My first reaction was, "it's so beautiful!" And it is. A blanket of glorious white snow covering the bare trees and grounds. It felt like I was in a snow globe.

This is the view from my window. Sometimes it's like an escape from the city. Ok try not to stare at those cable wires in the background.....

So I look up the weather and it's not too bad probably in the upper 30s. Time to out that sled that's been collecting dust, webs, dirt and other yucky stuff (I know because I had to wipe it down first before taking for a ride). Kaden was pretty excited simply to go play in the snow. We walked over to the little hill on the other side of the complex and as he was treading through the 5 inch snow he kept shoveling a path before him with his hands and exclaimed, "I'm a digger mommy, I'm a digger!" Ah! the joy of being a kid.

We even found a couple of other little friends playing out back and joined them.

Having fun with our kids.

Kaden made a new friend today. He's a happy one.

Usually Kaden is the first one to wake up and sneak out of his room quietly so that he doesn't wake up his little sister. I then go out and help turn on some cartoon and heat up a cup of chocolate milk for him. Then I go back to sleep for a little while longer. Usually I'm just half asleep making sure Kaden doesn't get into something he's not supposed to. He comes into my room and he's hiding something between his two hands. I ask what it is and he replies, "cookie." Then he asks if he could eat it. Well one wouldn't hurt so I said, "ok."

Not too long after I go outside and notice the newly opened cookies looked like this:

My first reaction was, "NO WAY" I ask him if he ate all those cookies. He said no.  Then I found this:

Well good thing he didn't eat all 21 cookies or else he would have had a really big tummy ache.

Kaden lately has been on a rhyming streak. And whatever he says, he has to rhyme it:
"Mommy how come you're on your phone, silly girl. Smelly welly cutie"
